Ego has no place in Business

By Rebecca Plant

Diem Fuggersberger, Berger Ingredients

Diem and Werna Fuggersberger are the founders of Berger Ingredients, a manufacturing company that focuses on wet and dry ingredients supply. They have successfully taken aside ego in their journey as couples in business.

Before they ventured into their company, Diem and Werner experienced life-changing problems in their former business that made them $900,000 in debt. This has become their inspiration in creating Berger Ingredients. Using the lessons learned from their mistakes, they were able to pay their debts and founded another company called Coco & Lucas’ Kitchen.

In this episode we chat about:

  • How Berger Ingredients’ creation had a profound impact on their family.
  • The inspiration behind Coco & Lucas’ Kitchen.
  • How and when they went from $900,000 in debt to multi-millions in assets.
  • The lifestyle changes they employed to accompany their success.
  • How they settle the differences in their beliefs as couples.
  • How Werner mentors Diem in running Coco & Lucas’ Kitchen.
  • How they split their dynamic roles both in their companies as well as at home.
  • How being a refugee affects Diem’s work ethic in the company.
  • Benefits of being a good negotiator.
  • How hands-on they are when it comes to their businesses.
  • “We all have disagreements… at the end of the day, we have to draw out what’s really the focus of the business.”
  • Putting ego out of the window for the business.
